Present Day
Present Day
“Now class,” The teacher stated. She glanced around the room at her uninterested students.

She was a little bummed that the entirety of her class was female. It was always more interesting when a male was in her women’s studies class with a different perspective.

She pointed to the screen behind her where the presentation was being displayed.
She tried to muster some enthusiasm, “What can we learn from these early human remains?”
A discolored skull was displayed on the screen.
After receiving only awkward silence, the teacher shrugged her shoulders, “How about the fact that this female had her teeth removed? What does that tell us about these ancient people? Can we compare that to our struggle in today’s society?”
Silence.
The teacher sighed, “Really? Nobody wants to engage in discussion?”
She clicked to the next slide.

“There she is with her oppressor.” The teacher let the students look at the picture for a few seconds before adding, “At least, that’s what scientists THINK this particular female looked like. Imagine how her life must have been, the hardships, the pressures, the struggles, the abuses she must have endured.”
The teachers voice trailed off for a few seconds. Her brow furrowed and she looked at the artists depiction strangely. A weird sense of deja vu struck the teacher before she snapped back to reality.
Shaking off some weird thoughts, the teacher lightly clapped her hands together, “Well, alright, I guess nobody wants to talk about what is famously known as, ’The first female victim of male oppression’. I would have thought a group of women’s studies majors would want to talk about the earliest known woman and her struggles. No matter, we’ll pick back up next week. Don’t forget your mid-term papers are due next time I see you!”
With that, the class departed. The image of ‘the first female victim of male oppression’ stayed on screen as they did. The teacher gave the slide one last glance before shutting it off. For some reason it made her shiver.
She decided to take that slide out next semester.
