Andy appeared in an empty lobby area. It was clean and modern, but there were no people anywhere. He stood in front of a tall wooden bench with a wooden block in front of it. Andy looked around. The floor was a white and black marble while the walls were tan with tropical accents. It felt like a hotel lobby of some sort.
S.A.M's voice range out, "You will have three minutes to provide a proper shoe shine."
In front of Andy an older black man in a black suit appeared. His foot was encased in a scuffed, black leather shoe. He opened up a newspaper and began to read. A rag, a spray bottle of water, a lighter, a brush and a can of shoe polish appeared.
"Begin."
Andy grabbed the materials and got to work. He knew a bit about shining shoes but was but no means an expert. He sprayed the shoe with the water and quickly cleaned if off. He ran the lighter across the polish and heated it up. He dipped the rag in the polish and applied it to the shoe. He sprayed the shoe with the water again and started to rub with the rag. He frantically wiped the shoe and began to see it shine. He finished it off by rubbing it with the brush. Once Andy was somewhat satisfied, he grabbed the mans other foot and completed the same sequence of events as quickly as possible. It wasn't the best shine in the world but considering he only had three minutes it was pretty damn good. As soon as he had finished, time was up. Andy stayed on his knees and looked up at the man, hoping for good news.
The black man looked down from his newspaper and examined his shoe. He appeared happy as his deep voice spoke, "Not bad, boy. You pass." The man then reached down and grabbed Andy's chin before saying, "I'm Mr. Johnson. I'll see y'all again real soon." Andy didn't know what to do so he froze, locking eyes with Mr. Johnson. Mr. Johnson flashed a toothy grin as the scene de-materialized.
